Maria is the author of the Thyme and Seasonings book series. Thyme and Seasonings is a fun and witty book that will help gauge where you’re at in life! You’ll learn a lot about yourself, and understand why some seasons, or let’s say Thyme and Seasonings, feel like you’re getting nowhere or even moving backwards. “One step forward and two steps back. Swing your partner back and step forwards again.”
Okay, no we’re not dancing right now, but our progress can feel like this sometimes. Getting a step done, then finding out a couple other things need to be taken care of first can be irritating.
Life is full of lists, and if we let it, it can feel like an escalator going down when you’re trying to go up.
Writing can seem intimidating, but it isn’t. Sometimes the ‘concept’ of something can appear more challenging than it really is.
The more I’ve been learning, the more I’ve realized that the ‘idea’ of writing is tougher than ‘doing’ it. I’m not saying it’s easy; I'm saying the mental stress of getting it done outweighs the work.
I think it’s because, for the longest time, if you wanted to write a book there wasn't as many resources as there are today. For example, I would think what should I do? Who should I talk with, write to? How can I find out anything?
For years I struggled with finding answers
about writing, finding a publisher, editor, and how to market books. Now it’s easier than ever to get this information.
Thanks to technology we can have webinars from home. There are many more classes to attend. Even the way we market books has changed. And let’s not forget social media and how it has helped.
This is where the “one step forward, two steps back” concept makes sense.
We have many more options, which equals more work. Get the work done – opens doors. Those doors open more doors, and so on, and so on.
Before you know it there will be plenty you’ve accomplished and more opportunities will be revealed.
Everyone’s writing path is different. If you try to imitate somebody it won’t work. If you don’t try, then you’ll never know what you’re able to do.
Instead of replicating someone’s pattern follow your gut. Don’t worry if your technique is different. If all writers duplicated a template where is the originality?
Be original. Do something different. Have fun! You never know where it will lead you.
